I’m sorry, Ashley

A few years back there was an e-mail circulating that had a mock conversation between a teacher and some college students over the grades that they had received.  In the story, a student was complaining of receiving a ‘C’, when a student with poorer performance was given an ‘A’.  The student was told that she already HAD enough A’s on her GPA, and so it was fair to let another student benefit a bit– after all, why should one person get all the good grades, and the good jobs that come with them?  I’m messing the story up, but I’m sure anyone who has the guts to read this far already has seen the message.  One thing about liberals– they quickly stop reading or listening if they detect something that challenges their way of thinking!  That is why, by the way, they are so darned frustrating to talk to!  As soon as you show how silly the point is that they are trying to make, they quickly change the subject.    But that’s OK– it only allows them to sound sillier and sillier from talking to other liberals all day long, so that when they eventually come out into the light, their ideas can be seen for what they are.

Here is another interesting, assumedly ‘mock’ message from elder to younger.  I’m sure a liberal would react by saying the old guy is being a jerk, and I would have written the exchange with a bit more ‘compassion’.  But the point is valid.  And it really won’t matter however sweet the older guy is;  there are ‘givers’ and ‘takers’ in the world, and the ‘takers’ are never satisfied.  I have been surprised throughout my long life how often when I try to help a person, the person responds by expecting more help.  And eventually if the help is withdrawn, the person, instead of responding with gratitude for what they were given, responds by demanding more.  Such a sad state of affairs, compared to a time when it was simply understood that people carried their own weight.  Now, what was once a ‘safety net’ has become ‘obama-money’–   from the entitlement days of early welfare to the present state, where it is simply understood that anyone who wants to work hard for financial gain must share half of any gain with those who refuse to work hard.

Bummer.

OK– here is the e-mail, including an introduction which I also assume is made up:

John G. Is 63 years old and owns a small business. He’s a life-long Republican and sees his dream of retiring next year has all but evaporated. With the stock market crashing and new taxes coming his way, John assumes now that he will work to his dying day.

John has a granddaughter. Ashley is a recent college grad. She drives a flashy hybrid car, wears all the latest fashions, and loves to go out to nightclubs and restaurants. Ashley campaigned hard for Barack Obama. After the election she made sure her grandfather (and all other Republican family members) received a big I told-you-so earful on how the world is going to be a much better place now that her party is taking over.

Having lost both roommates, Ashley recently ran short of cash and cannot pay the rent (again) on her 3 bedroom townhouse. Like she has done many times in the past, she e-mailed her grandfather asking for some financial help.

Here is his reply:

Sweetheart,

I received your request for assistance.

Ashley, you know I love you dearly and I ‘m sympathetic to your financial plight. Unfortunately, times have changed. With the election of President Obama, your grandmother and I have had to set forth a bold new economic plan of our own…”The Ashley Economic Empowerment Plan.” Let me explain.

Your grandmother and I are life-long, wage-earning tax payers. We have lived a comfortable life, as you know, but we have never had the fancier things like European vacations, luxury cars, etc. We have worked hard and were looking forward to retiring soon. But the plan has changed. Your president is raising our personal and business taxes significantly. He says it is so he can give our hard earned money to other people. Do you know what this means, Ashley? It means less for us, and we must cut back on many business and personal expenses.

You know the wonderful receptionist who worked in my office for more than
23 years? The one who always gave you candy when you came over to visit? I had to let her go last week. I can’t afford to pay her salary and all of the government mandated taxes that go with having employees. Your grandmother will now work 4 days a week to answer phones, take orders and handle the books. We will be closed on Fridays and will lose even more income to the Wal-Mart.

I’m also very sorry to report that your cousin Frank will no longer be working summers in the warehouse. I called him at school this morning. He already knows about it and he’s upset because he will have to give up skydiving and his yearly trip to Greenland to survey the polar bears.

That’s just the business side of things. Some personal economic effects of Obama’s new taxation policies include none other than you. You know very well that over the years your grandmother and I have given you thousands of dollars in cash, tuition assistance, food, housing, clothing, gifts, etc., etc. But by your vote, you have chosen to help others — not at your expense — but at our expense.

If you need money now sweetheart, I recommend you call 202-456-1111. That is the direct phone number for the White House. You yourself told me how foolish it is to vote Republican. You said Mr. Obama is going to be the People’s President, and is going to help every American live a better life. Based on everything you’ve told me, along with all the promises we heard during the campaign, I’m sure Mr. Obama will be happy to transfer some stimulus money into your bank account. Have him call me for the account number which I memorized years ago..

Perhaps you can now understand what I’ve been saying all my life: those who vote for a president should consider the impact on the nation as a whole, and not be just concerned with what they can get for themselves. What Obama supporters don’t seem to realize is all of the money he is redistributing to illegal aliens and non-taxpaying Americans (the so-called “less fortunate”) comes from tax-paying families.

Remember how you told me, “Only the richest of the rich will be aff ected”? Well guess what, honey? Because we own a business, your grandmother and I are now considered to be the richest of the rich. On paper, it might look that way, but in the real world, we are far from it.

As you said while campaigning for Obama, some people will have to carry more of the burden so all of America can prosper. You understand what that means, right? It means that raising taxes on productive people results in them having less money; less money for everything, including granddaughters.

I’m sorry, Ashley, but the well has run dry. The free lunches are over. I have no money to give you now. So, congratulations on your choice for “change.” For future reference, I encourage you to try and add up the total value of the gifts and cash you have received from us, just since you went off to college, and compare it to what you expect to get from Mr. Obama over the next 4 (or 8) years. I have not kept track of it, Ashley. It has all truly been the gift of our hearts.

Remember, we love you dearly….but from now on you’ll need to call the number mentioned above. Your “Savior” has the money we would have given to you. Just try and get it from him.

Good luck, sweetheart.

Love, Grandpa

He’s ‘close’

Only 60 days after Generals asked for more help in Afghanistan, our fearless leader is ready to jump into action.  Some are concerned that 2 months is not near enough time to decide whether to commit to helping our soldiers pinned down by enemy fire, out-manned by the Taliban.  ‘What’s the rush?’, they say.   These are Americans dying– it’s not as if some poor guy with bombs strapped on his vest didn’t understand the Miranda rights being read to him!  These are just a bunch of American kids– war mongers who pillage villages for fun!  Take your time, Obama!

Obama himself worries that he is taking steps that are much more reckless than his usual course of action.  But he has asked his advisers, his Cabinet, and the Generals themselves, and they have given him the bad news that he can’t just vote ‘present’ and get back to fundraising parties.  Bummer!

Sometimes, Barack, life isn’t fair.  I myself can’t believe that after only… 1o months or so, you are actually being asked to DO something!  Did they actually believe you when you said you ‘had a plan for Afghanistan’ back when they voted for you?  I hear you– what idiots!  And now YOU have to do all the dirty work of choosing not only ‘yes’ or ‘no’, but even picking a number between one and 40,000!  That is a lot of numbers!  And if you pick too high, you got Rosie O’Donnell calling you on the phone;  pick too low and…  wait!  There’s an idea– pick too low and what, exactly?  Sure, the Taliban wins and our guys die, but that is really all Bush’s fault— not sure how, but the press will think of something for that to work.  How ’bout, ‘Bush went to Fort Hood and all those soldiers cheered for him, and that made them miss killing classes and so they lost the war’.  That’s pretty good–  ABC, CBS, and NBC would buy it.    Fox won’t, but they aren’t really ‘news’– (wink!).

OK.  I think we’ll be OK on this.  I do think that since you said you were ‘close’, you should come up with something in the next few months– you know how those press guys like to hound you for keeping your word  (I just laughed and milk came out my nose!!).

Keep it ‘real’!  (wink wink!)

Obama’s ‘thought mistake’

A quick thought this morning as I watched the rescue crews in Baghdad, 136 dead and rising from two horrible car-bomb attacks. This will be another chance, of course, for obama to blame what he ‘inherited’. Likewise on the Sunday shows there will be calls from the sane people of the country and world to do something about Afghanistan– DO SOMETHING– something that is WAY out of obama’s comfort zone. He likes to plan. He would have been a great planner. But instead he is a shitty president, because Presidents must ACT. Even on his favorite gig, health reform– he plans, but has a hard time making up his mind or committing to anything. There is a word for those people, but I just see them as cowards. They love to blame other people for things, so they just plan. Plan and blame. We can look back at all of his votes at the state level as ‘present’, afraid to go so far down the ‘acting’ path as even deciding yes or no! How can we expect him to DO something, when he couldn’t even make a call on a VOTE?!

Obama thinks he was promised a Rose Garden

Obama thinks he was promised a Rose Garden

But I digress, as usual.  My point today is about this ‘inherited’ thing.  Bush started running for President (back when it deserved a capital  P) while the Nasdaq was running to 5000, and Clinton was basking in the glow of a balanced budget– mostly thanks to the fiscal responsibility forced on him by Newt et al., but also thanks to inflated government revenue from the dot com madness.  By the time Bush took office, the Nasdaq bubble had burst and we were two months into a recession (most people don’t remember all of this– of course, the press hardly mentioned it the first time!  No press writing about poor Bush, inheriting a recession!).  The media, instead of saying ‘poor Bush’, were immediately blaming him for an ‘unbalanced budget’.  His first budget had lots of red ink– the press blamed Bush policies, which would be like going after obama in February of this year for HIS economy– instead of being sorry for what he inherited, as they in fact did.

Still with me?  Bush inherited the crash of the Nasdaq (and all markets to a lesser extent) and a recession, but was BLAMED for ‘converting a surplus into a deficit’.  NOW you remember– who could forget what the press repeated over and over and over…  took a surplus, turned it into a deficit…. repeat… repeat….  They rarely if ever clarified that the surplus was PROJECTED for ten years, assuming the stock market kept growing and bringing in tax receipts– a silly notion, now.  The bubble burst– the money is gone– and Bush is blamed.  He never explained it to people all that well, because Bush was a lousy politician.  Planning wasn’t his thing– he left that to others.  He liked to act, perhaps to a fault.

Then he inherited 911, and he acted, and the people loved it.  At some point the libs used the tough times to destroy Bush, who was like a puppy fighting with a bunch of snakes.  Men of honor have a hard time trying to do battle with evil people;  sort of like a US trying to fight within a set of rules that the Taliban does not follow.  US versus Taliban is a lot like Bush vs. liberals.  That will sound silly out of context, but if you use your brain you will see how true it is.  Anyway, we heard very little from Bush about ‘inheriting all this crap’– he had too much work to do.  And people can cry about Iraq–  it was never about the straw man that the media created, but rather about changing course in the Middle East.  For those who cry now, picture the middle east if Saddam was still in power.  What would it be like?  If you are being honest, the answer is that you have no idea.  It likely, though, would not have gone away.  Saddam would have done more to cause problems– it wouldn’t have been a sea of peace.  THIS is one ‘thought mistake’ that all liberals make– they take the worst case and picture a ‘best case’ in it’s place.  If Bush had NOT gone into Iraq, IT WOULD NOT BE A SEA OF PEACE.  We would have gone in two years later.  Or six years later.  OR IF WE HAD NOT GONE IN, SOME DEM WOULD HAVE GOTTEN ELECTED IN 2004 RUNNING ON THE FACT THAT BUSH DID NOTHING IN IRAQ.

Getting into obama’s thought mistake… if none of the above had happened, obama never would have gotten elected.. but if he had still gotten elected, he would be complaining about this guy named Saddam in Iraq that Bush never dealt with, who has all these chemical weapons, who has viol0ated all of these UN agreements, and that he now has INHERITED.  That is the thing about complaining about what one inherited–  there are always things to complain about!  And obama has done just that– the recession?  Bush’s fault– never mind the fact that it is a global phenomenon, never mind that the dems pushed companies to loan money to people who couldn’t afford homes for the sake of ‘fairness’.  The wars?  Bush’s fault– never mind that he saw the same intelligence as everyone else, and that the Dems in Congress voted YES to both of them!  Medicare going broke?  Bush’s fault– even though when Bush took it on early in his presidency, the dems used it to destroy him, telling old folks that he was trying to destroy their benefits.  No wonder obama hates Fox news– they dare to remind people of what REALLY happened.  They don’t speak ‘obama-speak’.

His thought mistake if you haven’t gotten there on your own is that he speaks about a presidency that is just ‘fun’, and complains about the work  he has to do.   Remember a time  when we liked comments such as ‘the buck stops here’?  How much you want to bet that obama doesn’t have THAT paperweight in his office!  Obama seems to feel ‘entitled’ to a nice, fun presidency.  Bush didn’t get one.  No president does.  It is time for obama to quit whining about what he inherited and realize that the presidency is a tough job.  When any other man was President, even Clinton, they recognized that it is a tough job– no sarcasm here:  but someone had to do it.  For obama, the presidency is like his fake nobel prize– a neat thing to swing around, to use to beat people about the head, a chance to WIN!  But it is more than that, obama– you arrogant clown.  Decisions from the white house are important– they cost lives.  They create or lose freedom in the world.  You should spend less time on Letterman and Leno and the Sunday morning shows, and more time getting to know the families of the kids who are waiting for you– STILL WAITING– in Afghanistan.

While obama has been taking the easy life, the Taliban has grown back.  While obama did the ‘bro’ thing with castro and chavez, the dollar has fallen.  While obama did his ‘date night’, al qaeda has grown back in Iraq.  While obama has been throwing money to his supporters in unions and government, the real economy has shed jobs by the millions– since his policies took effect and because of them- mot as part of some corrective process to what he inherited.

As I watched the bloody rescuers in Iraq this morning I wondered if obama will EVER get it. Will he realize that he is the one who must ACT?  That sometimes you have to actually make a decision that might make you unpopular?  Or will he continue to strut like a modern-day Shaft, disco-balls filling his imagination, pissed off that one media outlet isn’t grooving to the same tune?  Get to work, obama–  and get a clue.

As always, thanks for nothing.
